Ceara

One of the less recognized of the Irish goddesses was Ceara, who was often attributed as being related to the sun. Ceara is fom the Old Irish name, Cera, the meaning of which may be "bright red." Cera was the name of a wife of Nemed, one of the legendary early invaders of Ireland. Ceara is also Irish for "spear." Interestingly, the god Lugh, although late period, is also related to the sun and identified with the spear. He is thought to have been the product of the Welsh Lleu who hold similar connotations and is from an earlier time period.
