The sacred blade is a primary ritual tool that is utilized by
Witches. It is used for moving and directing energy in a very focused
manner, and also for functional purposes such as cutting and
bloodletting. Bloodletting is the drawing of blood. This blade is
usually double-edged and is made by the Witch specifically for use as a
religious tool.
In the British Isles, the blade is sometimes related to the mystical
Bridge of Swords that leads to the Otherworld. Arthurian legend tells
tales of Arthur's sword, Calad Vwlch - known today as
Excalibur, which granted it's bearer victory in battle. In Celtic lore,
the sword was thought to hold within it the soul of the person who
wielded it, and therefore to possess the sword of the enemy was to
possess their spirit.
